This is a unique tea to be sure. It’s made from Wild Tree Purple varietal tea (ye sheng cha) growing in the Big Snow Mountain area of Yong De county. The tea grows wild and is only harvested in March. The tea was processed using the same technique used for Yue Guang Bai, the tea wilts briefly before being put into a long wind tunnel tube, where the action of air movement gradually halts the oxidation of the tea.

The taste is something unique too. There is a ton of complexity, with notes of fruit, flower, sugarcane, and a kind of bitterness that fades quickly. With just a couple years of age, most of the bitterness has already transformed into fruity sweetness with a long lasting after-taste. The tea soup is yellow, and is thick and soupy.

2023 First Flush of Spring Harvested

6.5-7 Grams per Dragon Ball (wrapper incorrectly says the weight is 5 grams each)

These are sold by weight which includes the weight of the packaging (wrapper and twist-tie).

This is a pure assamica varietal (same as is used to make pu-erh tea) that was plucked during the first flush of spring (April) and then processed into a lovely full-bodied black tea!

The taste is fruity and sweet with the slightest floral astringency. It can be steeped 8+ times gong fu style! Stimulating and enjoyable tea that will deepen in character with age! Just keep sealed in the pouch to age it!

Mei Zi Qing is a small village in the remote Yong De county (Lincang). Mei Zi Qing village tea trees range in age from 40 to 150 years growing at an altitude of 1700 meters.

We also offer !

This expertly fermented black tea was crafted using a wild tree purple leaf varietal from the Yong De “Da Xue Shan” (lit. Big Snow Mountain) area of Lincang prefecture. This wild tree varietal grows wild in the mountains at an altitude of 2100-2300 meters.

Ye Sheng “野生“ varietal aka “Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze var. assamica (J. Masters) Kitam.” is a primeval varietal that pre-dates Camellia Sinensis var. Assamica and is a naturally occurring non-hybridized varietal. Its potency in cha qi arises from its unadulterated nature. It is naturally bug repellent and grows wild in the forests of Yunnan at an altitude of 1600-2200 meters.

A very lightly wilted and processed tea, the green in the leaves is still present and the tea soup is a golden yellow color, much different from the Dehong Wild tree black tea that we also offer. There is a hint of fruit, chocolate and barrel aged rum in the taste and aroma. An exquisite experience!

An incredibly rare tea, only 70 kilograms in total production!

Mid-March Harvested
