Fairly similar to Fuding Sun-Dried Bai Mu Dan in processing and aroma, but with a distinctive Yunnan character.

April 2018 harvested Gong Mei pluck white tea was aged for 3 years in Fuding before being pressed into this cake in 2021.  Stored in Fuding (Fujian) until early 2022.

This tea is ultra-smooth and sweet with a creamy thick mouth-feel.  Tea soup is a deep orange color and the brewed leaves are deep brown in color.  The qi is very balanced and the tea leaves have excellent stamina.  You can feel the relatively high altitude growing conditions when drinking this tea!

Lao Xian Ong (“Ong” is local dialect for “Weng”) 老仙翁 (meaning is Old and Venerable Immortal or Old Sage) is a varietal of Dan Cong with more than a 1000 years of history.  The oldest living tree is in Li Zai Ping, this “Mother Tree” is 400 years old and still producing.  

Our offering was grown at 800 meters (this is considered “Middle Mountain”)  and comes from bushes and trees between 30 and 40 years old growing in Tian Zhu Keng Village area.

Lao Xian Ong is a medium-small leaf size, with dark-olive pigmentation. During rolled tight during processing and.  The tea is sweet, bitter, with a strong pungent taste and strong huigan.  The aroma is more subdued when compared with Song Zhong or Xing Ren Aroma Dan Cong’s.  It makes up for that with it’s strong cha qi, huigan and buttery body.

The plants are taller, the tree posture is half open, and the leaves are horizontal. Leaves oval, green leaves, rich luster, micro-uplift leaves, leaf edge is serrated, flat leaf, tip acuminate, leaf teeth more blunt and shallow thin, thick and crisp leaf quality. Yellow, green shoots, less hair, a bud of three-leaf hundred bud weight 65.0g. Corolla diameter 4.4cm, petals 6-7 petals, ovary with few hairs, styles 3-lobed.

The buds have strong fertility, dense germination, and strong tenderness. One sample of two buds of spring tea contains about 3.5% amino acids, 32.8% of tea polyphenols, 18.4% of catechins, and 5.2% of caffeine. Suitable for making oolong tea and green tea. The production of oolong tea and spring tea is suitable for mid-April, and the tight cords are densely packed and the color is brownish green. It has the characteristics of the “Qi Lan” variety, which is mellow, fresh and cool, and has a high production rate, when planted in deep garden soil.

Our “Huang Qi” offering is harvested from 12 to 16 year old tea bushes growing naturally in Wu Yi Shan area.  The tea is painstakingly processed over two months with several stages of roasting and resting.  The result is a full bodied tea with sweet and mineral character and lovely penetrating honey aroma.  This is a tea that is suitable for longer term aging and can be stored is kept airtight and in a cool dry place.

This particular tea grows in Tian Zhu Keng village at an altitude of about 800 meters， and is grown by the same family who grows our . The year round cool temperatures combined with fog and mist gives this middle mountain Dan Cong a strong character.  Tea trees are mix of younger (25 years) and older (up to 80 years) growing naturally.

This is an interesting varietal with unique character but without a high price tag.

When sun-drying is applied in the final stage as opposed to heat-drying, the result is a black tea that is more subtle when young, but ages very well over the coming years.  Younger sun-dried black teas also tend to steep longer and display more character in the middle to later steeps. 

This is a strong black tea with plenty of depth and complexity that will age wonderfully, developing honey sweetness and earthy spice character after just a few years.
