The aroma when brewed at first reminds us of cured cannabis flowers and orchids. The taste is thick and pungent, with sweetness and little or no astringency. The tea has body and seems to expand in the mouth. The after-taste is noticeable and long with a soothing lubricating effect on the mouth and throat.

Ta Ku Hou village is a small village near Phoenix town just to the west at an altitude of 1350 meters. This is one of highest altitude villages in the Wu Dong mountainous area. Our Single Tree Ta Ku Hou Dan Cong is grown by one family and is from a single old tree that is more than $150 years old

The tea itself is medium leaf, dry leaf is dark in color and when brewed is typically green with some brown. The tea has been hand-picked and processed at each stage, and took more than a month of labor to complete. The taste is very vibrant and complex with notes of fruit and eucalyptus. There is a slight bitter which accentuates the fruity sweetness this tea delivers. It’s got a strong mouth-feel, cha qi and is very infusable.

A premium small-batch Dan Cong that imparts the depth and wisdom of this incredible tradition to those fortunate enough to try it.

Ya Shi Xiang Dan Cong (aka Duck Shit Aroma) is a rare Dan Cong varietal grown in and around Ping Keng Tou village in the Phoenix Mountains outside of Chaozhou in Guangdong Province. This tea is from 50 to 150 year old tea bushes and trees!

It’s called “duck shit aroma” because in the Ping Keng Tou village area the soil has a somewhat yellow brown look to it and is unique to that area. With all teas the soil type is a key element in the tea’s taste. Villagers wanting to guard the uniqueness of their tea bushes told outsiders that the color and uniqueness of the soil in their village was due to copious amounts of duck shit and began to call the their Dan Cong “duck shit aroma”. True or not it’s an entertaining story which reveals why the tea has such a gross name.

The tea itself is lightly oxidized and the leaves are still mostly green in color. The brewed tea is highly aromatic with flower, honey and longan notes. The mouthfeel is delicate and soothing with a taste that perfectly balances sweet, bitter, and astringent notes, none of which are overpowering.

Incredibly tasty and powerful Duck Shit Aroma Dan Cong!

Late April Harvest

Mi Lan Xiang (aka Honey Orchid Aroma) Dan Cong is the most well-known Dan Cong style. This is a high mountain pluck from older trees (Lao Cong) growing at an altitude of 1250 meters.

This is a medium+ level of roast, that was laboriously roasted, rested, and re-roasted many times to achieve a high level of aroma and body. Further aging will benefit this tea as the roast taste transforms this tea in a bouquet of fruit, honey and orchids!
