Ju Duo Zai is a rare varietal of Dan Cong Bush grown by just a few families in the Feng Huang (Phoenix) village area of Wu Dong Mountains. Ju Duo Zai is characterized by small-medium sized leaf, dark green appearance, with very large sawtooth edges. Ju Duo Zai is in fact the least grown varietal of Dan Cong.

After picking and processing into “mao cha” (lit. unfinished tea), the tea is roasted, stored and then roasted two more times at low temperature. This roasting is very gentle and you will notice that even though the dry tea leaves are black, when the tea is brewed the infused leaves are still mostly green in color. It is also called “Xing Ren Xiang” (Almond Aroma), although most Dan Cong processed into “Almond Aroma” style is not the Ju Duo Zai varietal.

The taste is sweet and fruity with a slight bitterness and no astringency. There is a slight roasted marshmallow sweetness and the tea lingers in the mouth and throat lubricating it even after you’ve completed your tea session.

Ji Long Kan is a unique varietal of tea that grows at medium altitude (900 meters) in the village of Zhong Ping (Feng Xi area). Ji Long Kan varietal (literally means “Chicken Cage”) is originally a Feng Huang Shui Xian varietal but naturally crossed with other tea trees and became distinctive. Ji Long Kan tea is grown only in Zhong Ping village, and the tea garden is comprised of trees that grow naturally, ranging from 60 to 400 years of age! The tallest and oldest tree is about 5 meters tall and 4 meters wide. Our Ji Long Kan is sourced from this garden and is a blend of several trees’ leaves.

Most importantly, the taste and experience of Ji Long Kan is both unique and elegant! The aroma is floral with notes of cream and stone fruit. The tea soup is thick and creamy, coating the tongue with it’s elixir-like essence!

In 1994, the Fujian Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee approved the provincial variety. Due to the early emergence of buds and the more prominent aromas.

The plants are taller, the tree posture is half open, and the leaves are horizontal. Leaves oval, green leaves, rich luster, micro-uplift leaves, leaf edge is serrated, flat leaf, tip acuminate, leaf teeth more blunt and shallow thin, thick and crisp leaf quality. Yellow, green shoots, less hair, a bud of three-leaf hundred bud weight 65.0g. Corolla diameter 4.4cm, petals 6-7 petals, ovary with few hairs, styles 3-lobed.

This is an aged “Que She” varietal oolong that was harvested in 2012! It’s been re-roasted once since it was harvested! The flavor is ultra smooth with a spicy mineral sweetness and long lasting velvety mouth-feel.

“Que She” aka Sparrow’s Tongue, is natural mutated offspring of a Da Hong Pao varietal growing in Jiu Long Ke for centuries. It was discovered in the 80’s but a Wu Yi local who noticed a couple of the Da Hong Pao bushes in the Jiu Long Ke garden yielded considerably smaller leaves and were also slightly darker in color. He single batch processed the tea and the result was something quite different from the other Da Hong Pao bushes. He took cuttings from these two bushes and naming them “Sparrow’s Tongue” he propagated them in several other Wu Yi gardens as a distinct varietal.

Our “Que She 928” is from F1 (first generation) bushes growing for about 20 years already. The tea is expertly processed with medium level of oxidation. The result is a lovely complex tea with notes of vanilla, carob, and lychee. This is a tea that can be aged with excellent results.

Hou Zhong (猴种) is a unique Phoenix Dan Cong varietal, that has a strong and thick taste with some notes of pear and bittermelon. Aroma is floral and sweet, the the tea soup is a deep viscous golden color. Leaves are light to moderately oxidated, and hold up well to multiple brewings.

This particular tea grows in Tian Zhu Keng village at an altitude of about 800 meters， and is grown by the same family who grows our . The year round cool temperatures combined with fog and mist gives this middle mountain Dan Cong a strong character. Tea trees are mix of younger (25 years) and older (up to 80 years) growing naturally.

This is an interesting varietal with unique character but without a high price tag.
